The IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) program is an internationally recognized and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline.

Established in 2003 by IATA, IOSA uses internationally recognized quality audit principles and is designed to conduct audits in a standardized and consistent manner. The auditing standards have been developed in collaboration with various regulatory authorities, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the USA, Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Transport Canada and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Benefits of IOSA

With the implementation and international acceptance of IOSA, airlines and regulators achieve the following benefits:

  1. A reduction of costs and audit resource requirements for airlines and regulators;
  2. Continuous updating of standards to reflect regulatory revisions and the evolution of best practices within the industry;
  3. A quality audit program under the continuing stewardship of IATA;
  4. Accredited audit organizations with formally trained and qualified auditors;
  5. Accredited training organizations with structured auditor training courses;
  6. A structured audit methodology, including standardized checklists;
  7. Elimination of audit redundancy through mutual acceptance of audit reports;
  8. Development of auditor training courses for the airline industry.
